The Afrigraph Organization
On this website you will find news and events about members of the organisation and research being performed in the graphics field in South Africa. The resources section contains tutorials, a code repository, current research information and lecture notes. All the information is only accessible if you are a Afrigraph member. There is a forum for discusions and you may at any time become a member of the site, you do not need to be an Afrigraph member, and particpate in forum discussions.
Introduction
The purpose of Afrigraph is to help consolidate and promote the practice of relevant computer graphics in Africa in academia, the arts and industry. In 2003 Afrigraph was constituted as a professional body. The mandate of the organisation includes local issues, such as curriculum design and intellectual property, affecting the growth and development of computer graphics in Africa. During Afrigraph 2003 a formal constitution for Afrigraph.
The current committee is:
- President - Patrick Marais (University of Cape Town)
- Vice-President - Dave Nunez (University of Cape Town)
- Treasurer - Alexandre Hardy (University of Johannesburg)
- Industry Liaison - Gary Marsden (University of Cape Town)
In recognition of his role in creating the organization, and his continued support, Alan Chalmers holds the position of Honorary President of Afrigraph.
The most recent conference: Afrigraph 2007
The 5th International Afrigraph conference was held at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa. Afrigraph 2007 had an exciting range of events, including an exciting new Art and Animation Gallery, as well as the usually well attended paper sessions. The conference banquet was preceded by a game drive through the Kwantu game park in the Eastern Cape, which included a close encounter with a large group of elephants.
