The Virtual Reality Special Interest Group (VRSIG) housed in the
Computer Science department at Rhodes University conducts research into
various aspects of computer graphics and virtual reality. Current
research work concentrates on creating Rich Virtual Environments -
virtual environments with the realism, depth and appeal of the real
world. Projects in this area include Text-to-Scene (automatically
generating an environment based on a fictional book), and Procedural
Modelling (generating realistic and responsive content in these worlds).
This work build on our past experience with producing distributed
virtual reality systems, creating custom hardware and interaction
techniques for virtual worlds, and generating content and applications
for virtual environments.
